Celebrating the craft of music supervision in filmed media with the sync community in Canada set for June 8th at The Westin Harbour Castle

April 12, 2023 (Toronto) - The Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada (GMSC) and Canadian Music Week (CMW) have once again partnered to present the 2023 Canadian Sync Awards!

Celebrating music supervisor excellence and the sync. community across Canada, the ‘Sync Awards’ will take place on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at The Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm.

“We had a packed house in 2022 and we are thrilled to present the Sync Awards again in 2023!   The Guild members look forward to seeing our fellow Sync community colleagues and producers, filmmakers, directors, editors and our filmed media friends to help celebrate the achievements in the craft of music supervision and of our Sync. community”, says Michael A. Perlmutter, President of GMSC. “As I said last year, music in filmed media has become an integral part of conversations amongst industry professionals and fans, around the world!”

“I had a blast hosting last year’s Canadian Sync Awards! Not only did it feel great to celebrate the (often unsung) curators of the soundtracks that bring moving pictures to life; it was a damn good time. Turns out music folks know how to party!” said Tara Slone, Host of 2022 Sync Awards.

The purpose of the GMSC is threefold: to create awareness amongst production executives of this increasingly significant role in the production of all filmed media projects; to educate emerging Supervisors and create community; and share knowledge amongst colleagues in Canada and work on industry issues, challenges and changing landscapes together to foster solutions for all parties.

“We ‘watch’ screens with our eyes and our ears. So, the boom of Hollywood North rings loud in our music industry. Music supervisors do it all on a project, from corralling composers to pitching songs to budgets and deal-making – all with the aim of creating a mood. This is a night to honour the artists of music supervision in film, TV, documentaries, interactive and advertising and the sync community”, enthuses Neill Dixon, President of Canadian Music Week.

Submissions for the 2023 Canadian Sync Awards are now open and will close April 24th at midnight, EST.
