2025 Canadian Sync Awards Nominees & Impact Award Recipient Announced

 Celebrating the craft of music supervision in filmed media with the sync community in Canada set for May 6 at Annabel’s Music Hall

The Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada (GMSC) in collaboration with Departure Festival + Conference are thrilled to announce the nominees in all categories for the 2025 Canadian Sync Awards!

Additionally, the 2025 Impact Award will be presented to Broken Social Scene.

The Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada (‘GMSC’) Impact Award is bestowed upon an individual or group to celebrate a lifetime of contributions and influence on music, culture, community, self-expression and vision, as well as their profound prominence in the sync world. The Award recipient is selected by the GMSC Sync Awards Committee.

“Soundtracks have been a guiding force for this band when approaching our music. So much of life is a story that needs emotional melodies to help find meaning in how it all plays out,” said Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene co-founder. “We are happy to be recognized for the songs we have been able to bring into the community of film and television, a community that has played a major role in helping us find a larger audience throughout the years. Thank you to the GMSC for this award - we’ll see you there!”

Celebrating music supervisor and sync community excellence across Canada, the Canadian Sync Awards will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Annabel’s Music Hall, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and will feature performances by Goldie Boutilier, Sebastian Gaskin and Thunder Queens.

“Each year, the Canadian Sync Awards brings together all of the incredible people in our specialized world of sync under one roof,” said Heather Gardner, President of the GMSC. “None of what we do happens without the talent and expertise of so many individuals and companies at every step of the process. The Sync Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate both the incredible work that Canadian music supervisors do every day, and the community of artists, songwriters, composers, music publishers, record labels, sync teams, and film, television and media professionals that make this magic happen. Congratulations to all the nominees and to BSS – and we are thrilled with our performer line-up!”

The GMSC aims to create awareness amongst production executives of this increasingly significant role in the production of all filmed media projects, educate emerging supervisors and create community within the industry, and share knowledge amongst colleagues in Canada, collaborating on shared challenges to help foster positive change.

The Canadian Sync Awards also features “The Huey” Award, honouring legendary Canadian music supervisor David Hayman, who passed away in May 2020. “The Huey”, which includes a $1,500 honorarium, will be bestowed upon an aspiring music supervisor who has passion for the craft.
